Proper sprayer storage: Key to long-term success in the Field

A sprayer is a crucial machine in the agricultural industry, helping protect crops from pests, diseases, and weeds while ensuring a bountiful and healthy harvest. Proper storage of spraying equipment is essential to maintain its efficiency, prolong its lifespan, and ensure safety. In this article, we will discuss the most important steps for the correct storage of spraying equipment.

Thorough cleaning:

In addition to cleaning after each use, it's important to thoroughly clean the machine before storage. Empty any remaining liquid and clean both the exterior and interior of the equipment. Don't forget the tools used during work, including the tractor. Use detergents recommended by the manufacturer.

Fill the tank with clean water, activate and deactivate mixing, rinse in a sieve, and rinse the tank so that clean water reaches all parts of the sprayer. Then, activate the nozzles. If you have dual nozzles, rotate them and wait until clean water comes out of the nozzles. Open all valves to ensure water circulates over the vital parts of the sprayer. Empty the tank and pour in antifreeze solution (10 liters). Activate the pump, reopen all valves for the antifreeze to reach pipes and nozzles. Remove excess solution from the tank into a container and let the pump run for a few minutes to flush out the excess solution from the system into the tank and the container.

2. Inspection and Repair of Damages:

Inspect the sprayer for any damages such as cracks or rust and repair them immediately to prevent further damage during storage. Regularly check seals, valves, and nozzles, replacing them if damaged.

Pay special attention to the pressure regulator, which should be protected from moisture and dust. Lubricate all moving parts with oil or WD-40. Also, focus on the pump, which should be thoroughly cleaned, its operation checked, and necessary maintenance performed, such as oil and membrane replacement. In such cases, we recommend visiting the nearest service center.

Next, check the PTO shaft. Ensure the safety pin on the PTO shaft head is clean and lubricated. Replace sliding protection plates and safety pins if necessary to ensure safety.

Other vital parts such as filter inserts, sieve, and other additional equipment should be cleaned and inspected. Replace these parts if necessary. Clean suction filters, non-return valves, drain remaining water, and remove any deposits.

Apply grease to movable and sliding parts on the sprayer. For these processes, water should be drained from the pump, regulator, pipes, filters, and other elements, and the sprayer should be stored in a warm room.

Protect the manometer from freezing by unscrewing it from the regulator and storing it in a warm place. The manometer should stand upright to prevent glycerin filling leakage.

3. Storage in a Dry and Cool Place:

Store the agricultural sprayer in a dry and cool place protected from direct sunlight and other weather conditions. Temperature fluctuations and humidity can cause corrosion and reduce the sprayer's efficiency.

During storage, regularly check the sprayer, seals, pipes, and other parts. Clean the nozzles and ensure they are free.

4. Protection against freezing:

If you live in an area with cold winters, be attentive to freezing. Frozen liquid in the sprayer can cause cracks and permanent damage. Make sure you have removed all liquids that could freeze from the sprayer, or store it in a heated room.

Proper storage of agricultural sprayers is not just an investment in the long lifespan of your equipment but also the key to a successful farming season. With proper care and maintenance, you ensure your sprayer is always ready for work, contributing to optimal growth and protection of your crops.
